Am I poorer as a result of moving from the San Francisco Bay to Norway? 🇳🇴 Almost certainly.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
I was in it for the mountains 🏔️
I don’t believe making money ever crossed my mind once from when I was 15 and wanted to move abroad and 23 when I got to Norway. Not because of any abundance of it, far from it.
I wanted to be richer in other parts of life, most often somewhere out on a mountain, which I am, infinitely so and so grateful for it.
Now, it’s not so much the wins or the wealth in my network back home around Silicon Valley or in NYC that gives me pause, but I get to see what they’re working on and it’s inspiring.
They are the builders of the American tech renaissance of the past 50 years. And they’re doing really well in a complicated world.
While I wouldn’t trade my fjords for that, I do sometimes wish I had access to some of those opportunities on my current visa… 😅
Or the same benefits and incentivizations of options schemes in the US — seriously. And I’m hopeful NAST can win out in the end.
Though money was, as mentioned, never the motivator. But to build, that I’m here for.
Just tuning in? 👀
