You may know that I’m an immigrant to Norway! 🇳🇴 or as a founder or consultant, friend, acquaintance, that one American guy.
Would it surprise you to hear that after 11 years I’m still not a permanent resident in the country? Apparently that’s the letter of the law.
Feels silly to say it out loud.
So in addition to all of the other risks founders take on, I have had to navigate an often challenging legal residency journey.
It’s not a woe is me thing. I feel like I had to do this. But it’s come at a cost. The reality is that Norwegian tech scene is nascent and unstable, and I’ve gone about things in a decidedly unusual way. One full of learning.
My wins aside, there’s no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I do this because it’s exciting, interesting, and above all else hard — though of course the present wealth tax does nothing to help the Norwegian economy or people as a whole.
The breadth of cocaine use under 30 is staggeringly gross. Really Oslo?
I’d like to believe my career can bring greater financial stability later on in life, but that’s not a driving factor nor outcome to date. Despite all of these things, I know I want to stay in Norway. And this is the work I’m good at.
I’m hungry to win. Cliché yes, that’s the story of the scrappy immigrant entrepreneur. There’s already such a penchant for and tolerance of risk. And I want to work on problems that matter. What better for a great team?
Just tuning in? 👀
I’m looking for an epic operational role at Seed or Series A startup that is kind and ambitious. Think Chief of Staff or Head of Growth. If this might resonate in any way, get to know me! 🏔️
