Do you actively learn your keyboard shortcuts?
Opt+space → A → enter → type “su li” → cmd+K → cmd+shift+C → enter → cmd+tab → opt+shift+arrow → cmd+K → cmd+V → enter.
Products like Superhuman, Arc, and Raycast are transformational for delivering users enormous utility via keyboard shortcuts. I just used that sequence to tag all of these companies on LinkedIn — all within my Notion content database. Lol!
Without taking my hands off the keyboard I interacted with 4 unique tools, 5 if you count not having to manually post this on LinkedIn (it’s been scheduled natively from within Notion, hello from the past, shoutout to Scheduled!)
Each inline individually takes maybe 5-10 seconds to do. And I don’t have to switch apps / panes / context, it’s more or less just a command line interaction with my tools. Much faster than manual clicking and context switching.
I think often about Packy McCormick / Not Boring Blog’s “The Great Online Game” — “Hit the right keys in the right order, make money.”
If we’re valuing both time and output, then “doing things that scale” at the team or company level requires the ability effectively navigate between numerous tools. Our pathing in the game matters, and the tools are better than ever.
Anyways, also from the same Not Boring post:
“The Great Online Game is free to play, and it starts simply: by realizing that you’re playing a game. Every tweet is a free lottery ticket. That’s a big unlock.”
So if you’re a part of building a startup, a buttery stack matters, fluent pathing and effective navigation of our tasks and softwares matter. In an industry whose only requests are speed, size and value, we can’t be clicking around all day.
And in this respect some newer software can give real UX leverage. To check out Raycast, please use my personal link: https://get.opinionated.tech/raycast
